Tennessee Football Countdown: 9 More Mondays Until Gameday

Tennessee Football 2017 Match Preview Prediction and Players: Just nine more Mondays until the Vols take on Georgia Tech, so naturally, we’re going to highlight the best number nine in Tennessee football history. That of course, being Derek Barnett. Barnett really doesn’t have much competition here. He turned the number into his own, capturing Reggie White’s sack record. He cemented himself as a Tennessee legend in his final game, finally getting to Nebraska’s Ryker Fyfe — who had been running from Barnett all afternoon.

I actually thought Barnett’s performance against Nebraska was one of his best, despite getting him just once. He absolutely wrecked that game. Barnett was credited with four pressures, but it seemed like quite a bit more. It was such a perfect way to end his Tennessee career. Barnett singled-handly propped Tennessee’s defense up in some big spots last season. He changed the game with a strip sack against Georgia with under three minutes to play. He changed the game with a strip sack against Alabama early on and kept the Vols alive for the time being. He forced a key sack on third down in the fourth quarter against Florida.

Tennessee Football 2017

I know I’m leaving some out, but you get it. Barnett was a massive part of the defense last year, coming through in the biggest spots. Kyle Phillips, Jonathan Kongbo and Darrell Taylor have some massive shoes to fill. We wish Barnett all the luck in the world with the Philadelphia Eagles, but man — we sure are going to miss him this season.

Tennessee Football 2017, Who’s in charge here? The unsupervised 7-on-7 workouts have not yet begun, begging the question as to which player has the leadership and authority to organize them. As always, there’s a risk factor any time athletes compete, and Tennessee will be careful not to put itself in the same position as last season when injuries triggered losses to South Carolina and Vanderbilt in the second half of the season. Tennessee players talked a lot about doing everything they could to make sure they never lose to the Gamecocks or Commodores again. We’ll see.

The North Side (Tenn.) High School rising senior tipped the scales at close to 300 pounds at The Opening Atlanta back in late March. Now, the Scout four-star prospect reports he is under 260 pounds and feels considerably better, including pain from shin splints fading away. This week Emerson is at NIKE World Headquarters for The Opening Finals to gauge his skill against the premier offensive linemen in the nation. He was more than holding his own when his left ankle gave way during a one-on-one pass rush drill early Sunday. His mother and the medical team on hand quickly rushed to his aid and what was first worried to be career threatening might not even ruin his senior season in Jackson. Source Link
